Big River beach and mission beach both connect to my study of humanities because both have such different atmosopheres, weather and waves. Mission beach is a busy, sunny, tourist paradise, while Big River beach is mostly local, friendly, surfing or dog walking people. The atmosphere is much less chaotic, and the life on the beach is beautiful. You can meet anyone from a local artist to a restaurant owner to a homeless man enjoying the scene.

What are some assumptions/stereotypes you think people have of each location: 1 point
I think people judge mission beach as being a busy, shopping friendly area. When i think of mission beach i think of volleyball, sun, and beautiful girls. Little River beach i think of dedicated surfers, roasting smors on an open fire, and enjoying the beautiful scenery that mendocino has to offer.

List 3 things that make each location similar: 1 point
Both mission beach and Little River beach share the surfing attitude, and a love for the waves.
Both share great dining within a mile of the beach itself, with a variety to choose from.
Both have volley ball set up on their beaches, in Little River it is just a little less frequent.

List 3 things that make each location so different: 1 point
Little river is more of a local attraction, no real tourists come to mendocino for the beach.
Little river attracts many skimboarders instead of surfers because of the cold weather.
On mission beach you can not start fires, bring your dog, or have food on the beaches, in Little River, your dog can come, you can start fires, and you can roast and whatever you like, as long as you clean it up.

I know for a fact that you can not bring your dog onto mission beach, but why is this? Is it because too many people did not pick up after their dog? I would really like to know.

I looked at Debbie Lee's profile and found her work on Silicon valley. I found out alot that i did not know about california. Mostly when i think of world leaders in technology or most expensive living, i think of Lost Angeles or San Francisco, but after reading about Silicon valley and sunnyvale and palo alto, i learned alot that i did now know before. Silicon valley and Palo Alto being some of the wealthies and snobby places to live. They think they are the smartest there because of stanford, and residents have to have a high income in order to survive there.

Learning of both Mendocino California and Los Angeles California, I determined that they are similar in a few ways, but different in a majority of ways. Mendocino is much known for their beliefs in the green ways of life, and in living life surrounded by art. Every street in town has atleast one gallery to look at, so no matter what kind of art your interested in, you'll find your taste here. They are mostly known to be kind, warm, peacefull people. Los Angeles on the other term is known for their artistic ways in a different kind of medium, in film. Los Angeles contains some of the most famous film studios and music recording studios, and houses some of the most famous stars in hollywood. The movie stars are sometimes what we dream about, hopefully about someday becoming, they are what some aspire to be.

Contains the following elements that will be used in upcoming projects for analytical purposes:
What are some assumptions/stereotypes you think people have of each location: 1 point
I think that Mendocino is mostly known to be a "hippy" town, most of the residence believe in living green, growing their own vegetables and fruits and plants, and buying groceries from a small town grocery market. They are known to be kind and give rides to hitch hikers, and they are advocates in the legalization of Marijuana. Los Angeles residence are known to be rude, crazy drivers, and beach lovers. They have stereotypes of the rich and wealthy, and movie stars seen everywhere, but in reality Los Angeles consists of mostly poor minorities struggling along to make a living and support their families. Los angeles is also known for attractive peoples of all ages, since so much plastic surgery is practiced in this area.

List 3 things that make each location similar: 1 point
Both Mendocino and Los Angeles are located next to the ocean, so they are known to be surfing comunities.
Both Mendocino and Los Angeles are known for their artistic communities, Mendocino for their paintings, sculptures, and metal work, and Los Angeles for their music recording, motion picture and television recordings.
Both Mendocino and Los Angeles have many residence practicing the green movement and believe in the legalization of Marijuana.

List 3 things that make each location so different: 1 point
Mendocino is known for is small community, while Los Angeles is known to be one of the largest cities in the world.
Mendocino has little crime and theft, while Los Angeles is one of the most dangerous places to live, with a very high crime rate.
Mendocino's community is known for being kind, helping out the helpless, and giving rides to those in need; Los Angeles is known for their rudeness, their crazy eratic driving, and their self centered ways.

I know that both Mendocino and Los Angeles have people working for the green movement, but in reality, how helpfull is Mendocino's contribution to the cure when its occupance is less than one thousand people, and Los Angeles's houses close to four million people?

I read about Russels trip to the Superbowl. Reading about this, i learned that the superbowl is the second largest food consumption day in the US. Football and the superbowl is watched by millions all over the world, and football, being the number one sport in the US, is a great part of history and our human nature. We get agression out by watching these people hit and compete with eachother, and it is very entertaining. Everyone from the poor to the rich, from man to woman, watches football on this special, once a year event.

2c - My dog Mochi

Personal experience, my dog mochi is the source needed for this report.
Contains a brief paragraph how it connects to your study of humanities. 1 point
Mochi, my great 9 month old puppy dog, connects to my study of humanities because adopting and taking care of another creature in this life is a huge commitment. Dogs in the past were primarily used for hunting, or as protection, now in days dogs and humans are "best friends" because of the levels of trust and commitment that is being put into the relationship between dog and owner. We are reaching new levels of bonding and understanding between our two species, dogs are becoming ever more popular, and i will always love them, and my own puppy, Mochi.

Contains the following "analytical elements":
Observation: What did you choose? What do you see or hear or feel or think of in the choice you made? What is the subject of the work? If you chose a 'thing' what is the work made of and what techniques (colors, lines, shapes, textures)does the creator use? Be specific in your description. If you chose a place, be specific in your description of what you see or hear. Talk to your reader as though they cannot see the item but somehow must draw a painting of what you see or hear. 1 point
I chose my dog mochi, she is a nine month old mixbreed of german shepherd and lab. She is a beautiful, sleek, spontanious animal, always loving to get into trouble, and giving me the cutest looks when she does. She is tan with black all over her back and face, creating a look of eyebrows, which makes her look like she is making faces at me sometimes. She has looks of passion, of trust, of love, of fear, of curiosity, of understanding, of want, all the things that humans feel and need. Her reactions mimic my own sometimes, making me think that someday she will grow up to be like me, but a dog. She is my best friend, she is my puppy, my baby, Mochi.

Interpretation: What is your choice about? Give specific examples to support this statement in 2 sentences; do so in a way that teaches us something about your choice. Make Paulo Freire proud! .75 point
My dog mochi is about teaching me how to be a better person and friend. Mochi is the kindest, sweetest young thing i could ever ask for, and if i am upset, she makes me smile, she teaches me to be a better person. Her excitement for any new thing inspires me to have an open mind for new experiences, not to be affraid, but to jump in head of heels and enjoy the life givin to me just like she does. She lives without regrets, i want to do the same.

Judgment: What led you to your choice? What do you think or feel about this choice? Why do you feel this way? Support your thoughts with specific observations. .5 point
I chose my dog mochi because she is a huge part of my life. When i'm not at school or at work, i am with her, either at the park, schools, or walking around just enjoying time spent with her. She never asks to much of me, she never makes me upset, she never intentionally hurts me in any way, her only goal in life is to live, and that is what inspires me. She does not have any regrets, she does what she wants when she wants, which is what i need to get back in touch with. Thinking about consequences just slows us down, we need to start acting on impulses and whats right instead of sitting and thinking everything out. We need to get back in touch with our animal instincts, and that is what i hope mochi will help me do. I love me dog mochi, and will take care of her no matter what.

Questioning: What else would you like to know about this choice? When completing the question section, lead your audience into the question by stating a fact you do know, yet you still have the related question. This way, both your audience and you will have an educational experience. Example: I learned that John Steinbeck's Grapes of Wrath was based on his personal experience working with farm workers. I would like to know if the characters he used in that book are fictitious or are they people he met? .5 point
I know that a dog can learn a new trick, to roll over or sit or shake. I know that they can determine for themselves whether to go to the bathroom inside the house or outside the house, but is it the consequence of their action that leads them to their decision, or is it pure animal instinct that drives them?

I chose to pick Andrea Pruett's observation of "California Academy of Sciences" because of the sheer interest in sparked in me. The fact that you can see aligators found in florida to birds and wildlife found in africa to creatures pulled deep out of the sea, anything and everything is here. The Academy of Sciences brings new experiences to those looking for them, those who can not go to the rain forests in africa can take a trip here and experience the same things, see the same sights, and feel the same things. The Academy opens our eyes to dangers in the environment, and the importance of the protection of every species on this planet, everything was put here for a reason, so lets keep things just how nature intended them to be, perfect.
